A few short clips of the German Shepard, my very first full dog tutorial. I started drawing about 14 years ago, and being self taught drew what I enjoyed. My drawing was not consistent, I believe at times I went a year or more at a time not drawing at all :)

Well in late 2023 with the encouragement of family, I decided to invest in my art. I enrolled in the Bonny Snowdon Academy in the fall of that year.

This was my first drawing accomplished with her guidance. I’m still not sure if drawing animals is my forte, but love adding it to my array of choices.

As you can tell, I’m a fiend for detail. Sometimes I do struggle, so an age old trick is to work upside down. This rooster is going to be amazing, lots of brilliant color.

:This video is an example of drawing a dog eye in colored pencil. This eye by itself took approximately 40 minutes to complete.

Most drawings require 10-20 layers to achieve the vibrant and realistic color necessary for any piece of art.

The completed portrait of Hugo took about 30 hours to complete.

Oldest versus newest, my first dog portrait was a request from a friend. This was completed and gifted in 2009. I hadn’t drawn a dog since, until late in 2023.

I’m hoping this video showcases my progression, hopefully showcasing the improvement in technique and style.
